Club History
History
The origin of the Club was started in 1968 by about half a dozen people meeting in the Nookenburra Hotel to discuss the need for a sporting facility for the Innaloo community. The first official meeting was held on 17th September 1968 and Bob Featherby was elected the Club’s first President.
On Saturday 26th March 1977 the Club doors were opened. Members were advised the Club’s liquor license had been granted and the beer flowed, it had taken over 8 years from when the idea of a Club was first envisaged by a handful of people. During 1977 the Bowling Club, Dart Club and Pool Clubs were formed.
The Club held a competition to find a Club emblem and the winner was Bob Featherby. His design was a representation of the family unit meeting in friendship at the Club and if one so desired a friendly competition against one another in different sports such as bowls, darts, pool, cricket or tennis with the flames from the Olympic torch inspiring them.
Innaloo Sports Club was the first club in Western Australia to install an undercover 9 rink, carpeted bowling green. It opened in time for the 2009/2010 pennant season.
The success of the Innaloo Sports Club is a tribute to the many members who over the years have shown their belief and commitment in the values of the Club, volunteered their time, patronised the Club and have attended functions and events held at the Club.
The Club is blessed to haver hardworking satellite clubs who work with the Management Committee for the betterment of all members. The satellite clubs have bought pride to the Club when representing Innaloo in their various sporting arenas. Every section of the Club has at sometime reached the pinnacle of their chosen sport by winning a premiership, championship or as in the lawn bowling fraternity a promotion and a pennant.
It is the very core of the “never say die” attitude in the hard times along with the ever present feeling of family between the members that make the Club a success.
As ever the Innaloo Sports Club is ready, willing and able to face any challenge the future may hold and that is a position that has never failed.
